Women For Kaine

‘Women for Kaine’ is a group of Virginians from varying economic, cultural and geographic backgrounds united in an effort to educate voters across the Commonwealth about Tim Kaine’s record of supporting policies that improve our economy and advance opportunities for women. We are business leaders, veterans, physicians, teachers, lawmakers, mothers and young professionals. We have come to trust Tim Kaine as a champion for women's issues.
We believe that women have a lot at stake in this election and want to elect a U.S. Senator who will protect the interests of women. Throughout his career in public service, Tim Kaine has fought hard for equal rights and opportunities, economic growth, health care access and laws that prevent violence against women. We affirm that it’s time to stand with Tim Kaine and keep advancing progress for women in this country.
A Note from Anne Holton

Today I’m pleased to stand with more than 100 leaders from across the Commonwealth to announce Women for Kaine. Throughout his career, Tim has worked to advance issues women care about, and I now invite all of you -- women and men -- who support women’s rights and opportunities -- to stand with us in supporting Tim’s candidacy for the U. S. Senate.
Some of my husband Tim’s greatest accomplishments have been his work on behalf of women and families.
As Governor, Tim’s first action was signing an Executive Order banning discrimination based on gender and other factors in Virginia’s work force. Tim led by example, appointing four truly wonderful female leaders to his cabinet and numerous other talented women as agency heads. Tim also appointed the first African-American woman to the Virginia Court of Appeals.
Tim shares our passion for ensuring a bright future for our children. As Governor, he expanded the availability and quality of pre-K programs, expanding enrollment by nearly 40%. He worked with me and his extraordinary Health and Human Resources Secretary, Marilyn Tavenner, to find and strengthen permanent families for foster children and others at risk.
And I’m proud of Tim’s support for the Affordable Care Act, which mandates free preventive health services (like mammograms) and prevents insurance companies from dropping women who get sick or pregnant. Tim was also vocal in his support of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act, ensuring equal pay for equal work.
Tim strongly supports the right of women to make their own health and reproductive decisions, and opposes efforts to weaken or subvert the basic holding of Roe v. Wade . We all share the goal of reducing unwanted pregnancies and abortions, but Tim understands that criminalizing women’s reproductive decisions is not the way to accomplish that goal.
Tim also knows that women care about good government issues – in law enforcement, transportation, consumer protection, and more. In all these areas, Tim has demonstrated that he can reach across barriers and find common ground, a skill much needed in Congress today.
I look forward to working with you and other members of Women for Kaine in the months ahead. Tim needs all of us, working together, to become Virginia’s next Senator.
