Teacher cadet program trains students in education careers.
The Teachers for Tomorrow program at Mount Vernon High School has received the 2012 Governor’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) Exemplary Standards Award from Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell.
The teacher cadet program began as a partnership between former Gov. Tim Kaine and the Virginia Career Education Foundation in the 2008-09 academic year. The program empowers students to explore careers in education by analyzing teaching techniques, writing lesson plans and teaching lessons to small groups or entire classes. They participate in seminars which allow them to share and reflect on their experiences, and compile a portfolio while determining if teaching is the right career for them.
