Richmond, VA - During tonight's debate, Tim Kaine repeatedly and clearly laid out the choice for Virginians in this campaign. Voters will choose between Kaine's record of tough times leadership and his forward-looking, bipartisan proposals to strengthen the economy and create jobs, or George Allen's record of reckless spending and his risky all cuts approach that would derail the economic recovery and cost hundreds of thousand of jobs.
"Tonight, voters saw two very different visions for the future of our economy," said Kaine for Virginia campaign manager Mike Henry "Apparently undeterred by the fiscal and economic mess that our nation is still recovering from, George Allen proposes to go right back to the same policies of tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans over investments in the middle class, and giveaways to industries that don't need them, like big oil, at the expense of investments that will lead to good jobs for our workforce. His rigid commitment to the party line would have sent our country into default and threatens to derail our economic recovery. Put simply: Virginia can't afford to go back to George Allen's approach."
"Tim Kaine knows how to balance a budget in a fragile economy and still emerge stronger. He knows how to attract new businesses with strategic investments in infrastructure, education, and the workforce. And, he knows how to work across the aisle with leaders from both parties to get results. He did it in the Commonwealth in the worst recession since the Great Depression, and he'll do it in Washigton."
