Editor, Times-Dispatch:
I'm glad you acknowledged Tim Kaine's skills as compromiser in your editorial "Kaine is right." His approach to finding a way out of the stalemate on what to do about the expiring Bush tax cuts is just one example.
Let's not forget that as governor during the worst national economic downturn in 70 years, Kaine worked cooperatively with a Republican legislature to balance the budget and improve the quality of life for Virginians.
Some accomplishments were a construction bond package for higher education, preservation of thousands of acres of state parks, forests and Civil War battlefields and a 40 percent increase in the number of children in pre-kindergarten. The Democratic governor and Republican legislature were even able to work together to implement Virginia's first comprehensive energy policy.
Kaine is right — for Virginia and for the U.S. Senate.
