As Governor, Kaine Championed Dominion's Virginia City Hybrid Energy Center
Richmond, VA - Tim Kaine released the following statement on the start of commercial operation at Dominion’s Virginia City Hybrid Energy Center in Wise County. The state-of-the-art facility is one of the cleanest in the country and was permitted during Kaine’s term as governor.
“This is a big day in our nation’s efforts to use native energy sources in a more responsible way. I have long advocated a true all of the above energy approach that utilizes all native sources while transitioning to the clean energy alternatives that will power the future, like wind and solar. This is the philosophy I implemented as governor when creating Virginia’s first comprehensive energy plan and it will be my approach as a U.S. Senator. This plant also shows that infrastructure investments pay dividends. Thousands were employed during construction, hundreds of jobs will be created now that the facility is complete, and Virginia will have another reliable source of energy for decades to come.
“As governor, I was proud to be involved in the process that made this state-of-the-art power plant a reality. This plant shows that we can always utilize our coal resources in a cleaner and cleaner way. While some would seek to eliminate coal entirely, and others would seek to weaken emission regulations at the cost of public health and safety, this plant shows that neither of these approaches are appropriate. Instead, we should strive to make everything we build today cleaner than what we built yesterday. In many areas, including water usage, mercury emissions, and the capacity to implement carbon sequestration technology, this facility is showing the way forward. This Virginia City plant is a good news story on the future of energy right here in the Commonwealth.”
