IN NEW ADS, KAINE HIGHLIGHTS COMMITMENT TO VIRGINIA, FINDING COMMON GROUND

Richmond, VA - In two new ads released today, Tim Kaine shares his economic priorities, his commitment to the Commonwealth of Virginia, his record of finding common ground in Richmond, and his committment to doing the same in Washington. The positive, 30-second ads, “Always Will” and "Indivisible," feature Kaine delivering his closing message to Virginians direct to camera.

“As a missionary in Honduras, I learned how faith can bring people together,” says Kaine in "Always Will," standing in front of the home where he launched his first race for Richmond City Council and where he announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate in April 2011. “That experience helped me guide Richmond as mayor and then Virginia as governor through the worst recession in decades.”

During Kaine’s term as governor, Virginia was named Best Managed State by Governing magazine and Best State for Business all four years by Forbes, despite the worst national recession since the 1930s. Even in an economic downturn, Kaine convinced major corporations to relocate their headquarters to Virginia and helped secure hundreds of millions of dollars in private sector investment throughout the state.

Kaine also tells Virginians he will work to “bring more partnership and less partisanship to Washington to reduce our debt, invest in our schools and small businesses, to grow the middle class, and create jobs.” As senator, Kaine will take a balanced approach to deficit reduction, combining significant cuts with revenues to allow for investments in the things that grow the economy like education, workforce development, and infrastructure.

“I’m Tim Kaine and I approve this message because I’ve always done what’s best for Virginia and I always will,” Kaine concludes.

"ALWAYS WILL"                               "INDIVISIBLE"

In “Indivisible” Kaine commits to work together with both parties to achieve results for Virginia. In the ad, Kaine joins students in the Pledge of Allegiance and says, “We teach our children patriotism and unity, but Washington sets the wrong example by not working together.”

Kaine has a long record of working with members of both parties to cut taxes, invest in education, reduce crime, and bring new companies to Virginia. As senator, Kaine is committed to joining bipartisan efforts to build concensus in the Senate. “Until we can say ‘indivisible’ and really act that way, we’ll never get our fiscal house in order and invest in our future,” Kaine says in the ad.

Always Will” and "Indivisible" will run in markets across Virginia. Kaine for Virginia has purchased $9.5 million in fall advertising thanks to strong grassroots support from more than 47,000 donors. According to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics, third party groups have made Kaine the number two target of secret money attacks, launching more than $18 million in negative, misleading attacks.

Kaine Served As A Missionary In Honduras, Helping People Dealing With Overwhelming Poverty. The Washington Post reported, “Kaine’s devout Catholicism can be traced to his suburban childhood in the Kansas City, Mo., area, where his father owned a metalworking shop. He went to a Jesuit boarding school, attended Mass most mornings and envisioned a career in law, not politics. After a year at Harvard Law School, he signed up to work at a Honduran mission he had visited during high school. ‘He will tell you that Honduras made him who he is,’ said his mother, Kathleen. The Rev. Patricio Wade, 79, still working in Honduras, remembers Kaine as wide-eyed at his first brush with overwhelming poverty. ‘Tim saw a system where very few people dominated and had all the money and power,’ the priest said by cellphone. Kaine said the experience was searing. And when he returned to law school, he met in Holton a kindred soul. ‘Anne and I both decided early on that reconciliation would be the mission of our lives,’ Kaine said.” [Washington Post, 10/18/12]
