Richmond, VA - Today, Anne Holton campaigned on behalf of her husband, Tim Kaine, in Woodbridge. Holton met with the Democratic Women of Lake Ridge at the Tall Oaks Community Center and shared Governor Kaine’s Virginia-based strategies to create jobs and strengthen the economy and his track record of finding common ground with both parties.
“Folks in Washington can learn something from Tim, who is an incredible listener, and has proven throughout his career of public service that a balanced, results-oriented approach benefits all of us,” Holton said in Richmond. “As our next senator, he’ll work to reduce our deficit while making investments in education and infrastructure that will strengthen our workforce and our economy. We are counting on you to volunteer to make a few more phone calls and knock on a few more doors because your work, your dedication, and ultimately your votes will be what drive us to victory in November.”
Holton also discussed Kaine’s economic record and emphasized his support for important measures to ensure equal pay for equal work and protect the right of every woman to make her own health care decisions. During his term, Kaine created the Virginia Sexual Violence Commission, increased the number of state contracts granted to small, women, and minority owned businesses, and signed an executive order banning discrimination against state workers based on gender.
“The efforts of some to come between a woman and her doctor, and to block legislation that would bring us closer to equal pay for equal work, have made it clear how much is at stake,” said Holton. “As Tim says—access to health care and equal pay aren’t just ‘social issues’ and they’re not just ‘women’s issues,’ they’re family issues and they’re economic issues.”
Since the beginning of the year, Holton has traveled across the Commonwealth to meet with voters and share Kaine's strategies to break through the gridlock in Washington and improve the lives of all Virginians.
