Offshore Drilling

I disagree with the decision of the U.S. Department of the Interior to leave Virginia out of its five-year program for outer continental shelf oil and gas development. I support Senator Warner and Senator Webb’s bill, the Virginia Outer Continental Shelf Energy Production Act, which would allow offshore drilling for oil and gas off of Virginia’s coast and ensure that half of the leasing revenue goes toward conservation efforts, clean energy technologies, and infrastructure projects to develop our energy resources.

• As Senator, I will work to pass the Virginia Outer Continental Shelf Energy Production Act to allow Virginia to tap into its resources.

• I will also work to implement commonsense reforms to prevent catastrophic events like the spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
