Natural Gas
Thanks to technological advances, natural gas is a critical piece of Virginia’s and our nation’s domestic energy portfolio. It is making electricity cheaper and cleaner, and it is helping bring manufacturing jobs back to the United States. Virginia is playing a part in the nation’s natural gas revolution. We achieved an all-time high in natural gas production in 2010, providing residents with an inexpensive, native source of energy.1 Virginia’s utility companies have embraced this approach as well, constructing new natural gas facilities alongside their upgraded fleet of coal plants to meet growing demand. In 2010, 31 percent of the Commonwealth’s electric power capacity ran on natural gas.2
• As Senator, I will promote the development of America’s natural gas resources in a safe, responsible manner to encourage the production of affordable, domestic energy, and protect public health and the environment.
