Infrastructure

Maintaining a robust, modern energy infrastructure is vital to sustaining economic growth, attracting new industries, and meeting Virginia’s future energy needs. As Governor, I made improving the Commonwealth’s electricity transmission lines and gas pipelines a focus of my 2007 Energy Plan.1 We invested in local infrastructure projects that strengthened the region’s energy capabilities and put Virginians back to work. If Virginia is going to remain a leader in industry and meet the growing energy needs of the technology, research, and defense contracting sectors, it must continue to expand its ability to distribute energy resources to all parts of the state.
• As Senator, I will identify and advance opportunities, such as building a modern transmission system and advancing Smart Grid technology, to improve our national energy infrastructure and increase reliability for consumers, businesses, and military installations.
