I am pleased to introduce this week’s Volunteer Spotlight, Marianne Russell. Marianne, a recently retired teacher, is one of the most frequent volunteers in our Roanoke office. She never comes into the office without her special campaign companion, Madison, her Yorkshire Terrier who enjoys laying in the chair next to her while she makes calls.

Take a moment to read more about Marianne below.

Where did you grow up?
I was born and raised in Marion, Virginia.
Why do you support Tim Kaine?
I support Tim Kaine because he’s the best candidate for the job. He will do what’s best for the Commonwealth and the nation regardless of who is president. He is running a positive and personal campaign focused on finding solutions to problems and working across the aisle. He also did a lot for education when he was Governor.
Why do you think volunteering is important? What would you say to someone who’s interested in volunteering?
It is important to volunteer because candidates can’t do everything on their own. Tim Kaine needs volunteers to help him get out the word about his campaign through phone banking, canvassing, and other forms of volunteering.
You become a vital part of the campaign as a volunteer.
What is your favorite part about coming into the office every week?
My favorite part about coming into the office is the camaraderie with everyone here. When I’m here, I feel like I’m helping Governor Kaine become the next U.S. Senator
Tell us more about your campaign companion Madison
I’ve had Madison for 12 years. He’s made friends with many folks around the office. Every time I tell him we’re headed to the Kaine campaign office to make calls, he gets very excited.
Now that you have read about Mary, I hope you will take a moment to sign up and volunteer. This campaign is built on grassroots support, and cannot succeed without volunteers, and dogs like Madison!
