As Political Director for the Virginia Victory Coordinated Campaign, I frequently travel with Governor Kaine and have had the opportunity to meet with community leaders and supporters across the Commonwealth. I recently joined the Governor at the 145th Annual Virginia Baptist State Convention (VBSC) in Richmond. Governor Kaine is a long-time friend of the VBSC and has attended this event many times over the years.
As a regular attendee of the Baptist convention, the Governor always enjoys being surrounded by so many great people and good friends in the faith community. After being introduced by Rev. Dr. Leonard Smith, the Governor shared one of his favorite stories from the Bible -- the Parable of Talents. The story has influenced his life in many ways and developed his passion for developing Virginia and our nation's talent economy.
The Parable of Talents tells of three men who are each given talents, or money, to watch over. Two of the men use their talents by working hard and growing their wealth, while the third merely buries his talent. The lesson is a simple but important one -- we must utilize our talents and invest in them for a better life. Growing our talents will allow us to become the best-trained workforce in the world and make us an engine for economic growth.
When the Governor finished his remarks, Gospel legend Clifton Davis sang his song, “Victory in My Eyes." When Mr. Davis finished the beautiful song, he added “I can see a victory for Tim Kaine!" which produced a thunderous round of applause.
As a person of faith, the Governor looks forward to this event each year and views faith-based organizations as an integral part of our communities.
